Duplicate transactions after a bank upload in QuickBooks: prevent and clean up

Intuit warns that when you first connect a bank feed, QuickBooks pulls roughly the last 90 days. Uploading a file that overlaps those dates creates duplicates.

Prevent it

  1. In the bank register, find the date of the earliest feed transaction.
  2. Only upload file transactions dated before that date. Trim the CSV, or re-download a shorter range.
  3. Upload oldest first.

Clean up

  1. In Bank transactions → For review, select the duplicates and choose Exclude (you can sort by date and amount to find them).
  2. If duplicates were already accepted, undo them from the Categorized tab first, then exclude them.
  3. Reconcile against the statement to confirm the balance is right. If the reconcile screen's beginning balance no longer matches, see beginning balance is off.

Two ways to finish faster

Free: paste any transaction CSV into our statement tie-out checker. It runs entirely in your browser (nothing is uploaded), shows the first row where the balance breaks, and can export a QuickBooks-ready CSV or .qbo file.

Done for you: send the PDF statements and get QBO, Xero and CSV files plus a tie-out sheet proving each month matches the opening and closing balance. $15 per statement-month, or $149 for a 12-month catch-up. See pricing

Bookkeeper or firm? Your first statement-month is free, one per firm. Claim it.
