QuickBooks Desktop: importing bank statements with Web Connect (.qbo)
QuickBooks Desktop brings bank transactions in through Web Connect (.qbo) files. It does not offer the CSV upload that QuickBooks Online has for bank feeds.
- Get a .qbo file from your bank's download page if it's offered. For older periods, convert the PDF statements to .qbo.
- In Desktop: File → Utilities → Import → Web Connect Files, select the file, and choose an existing account or create a new one.
- Match or add the transactions in the Bank Feeds center, then reconcile to the statement.
Tip: Desktop links each .qbo file to an account through bank identifiers inside the file. If it keeps trying to create a new account, make sure all files for the account come from the same source/converter.

Two ways to finish faster
Free: paste any transaction CSV into our statement tie-out checker. It runs entirely in your browser (nothing is uploaded), shows the first row where the balance breaks, and can export a QuickBooks-ready CSV or .qbo file.
Done for you: send the PDF statements and get QBO, Xero and CSV files plus a tie-out sheet proving each month matches the opening and closing balance. $15 per statement-month, or $149 for a 12-month catch-up. See pricing
Bookkeeper or firm? Your first statement-month is free, one per firm. Claim it.
